Letter to President Bush
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

George Bush is an embarrassment to the sane people in this country.
The nice thing about an election year is that, in order to run for re-election,
"King George" will have to come out into the open more often, and when he does,
he's bound to say a lot more stupid things and reveal to everyone just what a moron he is.
He reminds me of a character out of the book "Gulliver's Travels".

The following commentary is from the author of the site www.gwbushart.com
his site ran out of bandwidth, so the link may not work at the moment

It is without question the series of tragic incidents have profoundly shaken us and caused great uncertainty. We are all in this together and it won't be over anytime soon. The decision to reopen this site was a difficult one. One might think, "how can you dare provide a forum where people disparage the president?". Then there is the idea, "the way to combat terrorism is not to silence ourselves!". I hold the later view. The bottom line is this, if we as a people no longer tolerate dissenting opinions and erode our most basic freedoms, terrorism has succeeded in ways beyond the wildest hopes of the bastards behind it.

A lot of people who come upon a site such as this one would be inclined to make some assumptions. It might go something like this : "only a wild-eyed communist liberal who sucks the marrow from the government through entitlement programs would create such an abomination!". Over time there has been alot of mail to this effect. I am a democrat but also served in the military, completed college, run a small business and drive an American car. Being a democrat does not make one subversive, dependent, lazy or hateful of this country. Freedom is something I value, consider, seek and desire to protect. If there is a silver lining, these days republicans, democrats and independents agree more than we disagree.

I support the administration in fighting terrorism am mostly pleased with steps taken. Ossama wished to provoke an over-reaction. Should there have been a knee-jerk indiscriminant bombing campaign in Afghanistan, there would've been a huge backlash resulting a million willing soldiers in Islam. We are not out of the woods yet and may never be but I appreciate the adminstration's restraint.

Clearly Ossama bin Laden, al Queada and terrorism must be dealt with. Ossama has proven if left alone, he is not about quick turn over a new leaf and begin sending out a series of warm Haiku to the west. He has gotten more brazen, savy and homicial with time. I am glad the administration is commited to bringing him to justice.

Diplomacy is now essential and always will be. It is more than the fact al-Quaeda is spread out in over 60 nations. Invoking military action in any country is best done with the cooperation of many nations. There is no perfect. The best that can be done is puruse the path which results in the least amount of loss of life. Diplomacy and coalition building offers the best chance to find this path. I am glad for the administration's efforts at diplomacy.

People are understandably afraid and are reaching out for stability. Bush enjoys strong support. That approval however needs to be conditional and qualified instead of blind. There are some disturbing things we must all contemplate and watch...

AN HONEST DISCUSSION WITH THE PEOPLE IS OVERDUE!
Bush has said over and over, "they are doing this because they hate out freedom".      Not so. The terrorist incidents and resentment of America is due in large measure to our...

1. supporting Israel and supplying them with weapons they use to fight Palestians

2. the presence of the military in the "holy lands" of Saudi Arabia
3. the byproduct of sanctions in Iraq causing starvation and death

Ossama bin Laden is a symptom.   Until we seek to address to the root cause of anti-American sentiment and violence, all of the bombs we drop, ammo we fire, arrests we make.. will not stave off the armies of people willing to execute violent terrorist actions.     Bush owes it to the nation to be up front about why this is happening.

DO NOT TURN A BLIND EYE TO PAKISTAN'S NUCLEAR PROGRAM!!

Pakistan and India both have embarked on nuclear development programs. Given the instability of the region and factions within, it is quite obvious this is extremely dangerous and contrary to the goal of a progressive peaceful world where people don't seek to turn each other into ashtrays and smoldering glass. Appropriately so economic sanctions were imposed in response to these programs. Now these sanctions have been lifted in reward for assistance in dealing Afghanistan and this is fine. What is not fine is the prospect of the recent cooperation earning a "blind eye" toward the resumption of nuclear development programs. The Bush administration made such a deal with China in return for approval of the horribly immature NMD program. This is NOT progress and IS NOT something the administration should pursue. They owe us an explanation regarding what deals may have been cut.

DO NOT SEEK TO SILENCE THE PRESS!

The administration naturally keeps potential political impact as a component of their decision making process, regardless of what Rush Limabuah says. They are afraid of being perceived as failing which is quite possible in all of this. It seemed to begin with a campaign of attacking the media with a smoke screen of rhetoric suggesting they are endangering the troops and aiding the enemy by doing things such as reporting on the build-up in the region. Really the administration desires to be the primary source of information regarding progress and events. The administration even went so far as to seek to cut off congress from recieving information about events in Afghanistan. Congress on our behalf provides oversight of the administration. Keeping us in the dark is not consistent with the idea, "for the people, by the people".

It is fine to support the administration in dealing with terrorism. I do. However it MUST be recognized blind support risks failure of our nation and the erosion of our liberties. This is not a time for any of us to stop thinking. It is a time for us all to know and demand much of our government.
